Our Impact
Extracurricular activities like sports and arts are more than ways to pass time for children. The classes and teams often bolster academic performance, decrease delinquent behavior and strengthen the identity of participants — three areas where foster children tend to struggle.

RICHLAND COUNTY

Josh is a sixth grader; Janie a ninth grader. The siblings were taken out of their home and their schools of origin when they were placed in foster care. As a result, each fell behind on their coursework and needed to take summer school classes in order to earn course credits they failed to earn during the regular academic year. Katrina’s Kids provided full funding for both children.
Brianna
Orthodontic Care
LEXINGTON COUNTY

Brianna, a young teen, was placed with a foster family who took it upon themselves to get her braces she desperately needed. Unfortunately, Brianna had to leave that foster home and her new foster family was not able to pay for her orthodontic services. Without these funds, Brianna would have had to have her braces removed before her treatment was complete. Katrina’s Kids paid off the balance so that she could keep her braces until her smile was perfect.

Nick recently turned 18 and would soon be aging out of foster care. A resident at Miracle Hill Boys Home, Nick had attended the Benjamin Franklin Experience (BFE), a summer program that exposes students to a wide variety of careers via day-long experiences, each lead by an expert in field such as STEM, art, journalism, law, medicine and more. Nick wanted to attend BFE for a second summer, and his counselor believed the experience could be an important turning point for him as he considered what to do with his life. Katrina’s Kids agreed and provided Nick with a scholarship to attend.
