Independent Living/Job Preparation - 2017

In 2017, Katrina’s Kids applied for and won grants from area Wal-Marts totaling $6,000. That money was designated for college supplies to graduates of DSS Independent Living Program in Beaufort, Greenville, Charleston, Lexington, Richland and Marion counties.

Christmas Shopping Sprees – 2017, 2018

In 2017 and 2018, Katrina’s Kids treated every child and teen at Palmetto Place Children and Youth Services to s holiday shopping spree. Each child got a $200 Wal-Mart gift card from Katrina’s Kids (along with the Marcus Lattimore Foundation in 2017) and Katrina’s Kids volunteers helped them shop.

School Supply Drive - 2019

Katrina’s Kids purchased more than $5,000 worth of back packs and school supplies. Working with the new DSS director, the filled book bags were distributed across the state though county DSS offices.

Teddy Bear Parties - 2019

Working with a Charleston-based vendor, Katrina’s Kids provided children in Sumter and Oconee county group homes with a party where the kids adopted and dressed their very own super-hero teddy bears. At the Oconee party in July of 2019, the children also received athletic shoes courtesy of USC Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Staley’s InnerSole Foundation.
